Large and Working Objects Storage

Some of the items that sit within this category are simply too large to store in a conventional museum store, though they may be preserved at a dedicated storage facility or warehouse. However, for items such as furniture and musical objects, it is important to make sure they are housed safely and securely on robust storage systems.

When storing large and working objects, shelving systems should always be larger than the objects housed to prevent damage as a result of accidental knocks and bumps. Objects should never be stacked or placed in overcrowded drawer units as this too is likely to lead to damage. From a health and safety perspective, large and heavy objects should be securely placed on the lower levels of shelving to avoid injury or damage to the object itself as a result of its falling. However, objects should always be slightly elevated rather than placed directly on the ground as they might be scratched or damaged when moved.

We understand that collections of large and working objects can be difficult to store for a variety of reasons. Because such collections vary considerably, we have developed a range of shelving designed specifically to suit the various specifications of your collection. We design our system with preservation in mind but we also supply you with a versatile design that can grow with your collection as and when you need it to.

We pride ourselves on the stability and security of our storage systems and, knowing that your primary concern is the safety and preservation of your collection, we ensure all our shelves are ODI tested to avoid the risk of pollutants causing any damage.

Roll-in roll-out racks can be used to store window and door frames in an upright position, whilst picture racking can also be used to store walking sticks and agricultural implements previously laid flat on shelving. Alternatively, mesh panels can be fitted on to the ends of all runs to allow items such as tools to be displayed and stored. Heavy duty static and mobile shelving can be used to store items such as heavy horse harnesses, pianos and harps safely and securely.
